Tra i vari personaggi letterari che sono stati creati nel corso dei secoli, quello di Sherlock Holmes è tra i più apprezzati. Il famoso detective è protagonista dell'omonima serie di libri, che ha dato vita a moltissimi adattamenti (fil, serie TV, fumetti, videogiochi e giochi da tavolo) e che ha attirato numerosi ammiratori da tutto il globo. 

Incontriamo per la prima volta il personaggio nel romanzo Uno studio in rosso scritto da Sir Arthur Conan Doyle e pubblicato nel 1887. Per quanto oggigiorno non ci sia persona al mondo che non sappia chi è Sherlock Holmes, la sua prima apparizione, nella rivista Beeton's Christmas Annual, interessò pochi lettori. Sarà solo un anno dopo quando verrà pubblicato come libro autonomo che inizierà ad avere più visibilità: col tempo la sua notorietà porterà a vedere il suo nome quasi come sinonimo di investigatore geniale. Inoltre, con lui esordisce un nuovo tipo di detective che ispirerà personaggi altrettanto famosi come Hercules Poirot di Agatha Christie e Guglielmo da Baskerville de Il nome della rosa. 

Ciò che ci ha spinto a scrivere un blog su questo personaggio è la passione che ci accomuna e che ci ha fatto stringere amicizia all'università. Infatti, uno dei primi giorni di lezione del primo anno una di noi (Corinna), non facendosi i cavoli suoi, ha spiato il computer di una compagna seduta davanti a sé (Carolina). Indovinate un po': lo sfondo raffiguarava Benedict Cumberbatch nei panni di Sherlock Holmes. É proprio questa passione comune che ci ha fatto conoscere. 

In questo blog troverete, quindi, post su Sherlock Holmes: non solo sull'opera di Arthur Conan Doyle, ma anche approfondimenti che spazieranno dagli adattamenti ad aspetti più generali del personaggio. I nostri post saranno sia in inglese che in italiano, così che sia fan italiani che non possano leggere e condividere l'interesse che ci unisce.

Among the various fictional characters that have been created over the centuries, Sherlock Holmes is among the most popular. The famous detective is the protagonist of the books with the same name, which has inspired many adaptations (films, Tv series, comics, video games and board games) and has attracted many admirers from all over the globe. 

We first meet the character in the novel A Study in Scarlet written by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle and published in 1887. Although nowadays there is not a person in the entire world who does not know who Sherlock Holmes is, his first appearance, in Beeton's Christmas Annual, interested few readers. It was not until a year later when it was published as a stand-alone book that he began to gain more visibility: in time, his notoriety led to his name becoming almost a synonym of the genius detective. Moreover, with him a new type of detective made its debut that would inspire equally famous characters such as Agatha Christies' Hercules Poirot and William of Baskerville from The Name of the Rose. 

What prompted us to write a blog about this character is the passio we share, and which made us friends at university. In fact, on one of the first days of class in the first year, one of us (Corinna), not minding her own business, spied on the computer of a classmate sitting in front of her (Carolina). Guess what: the background depicted Benedict Cumberbatch as Sherlock Holmes. It is precisely this shared passion that brought us together. 

Therefore, in this blog you will find posts about Sherlock Holmes: not only about Arthur Conan Doyle's work, but also in-depth articles ranging from adaptations to more general aspects of the character. Our posts will be both in Italian and English, so that both Italian and non-Italian fans can read and share the interest which unites us.
